Fleetwood Town’s Carl Johnston has been named in the League Football Education’s ‘The 11’, which hails academy starlets for on and off the pitch achievements.

Johnston - who has featured in the Under 18s squad this year - has been recognised for his achievements, both on and off the pitch, by the LFE.

‘The 11’ acknowledges the football and academic progress of Under 18 players on apprenticeships at current or former English Football League (EFL) clubs - and is also designed to assess other factors, including involvement in community or charity-based initiatives.

During the 2019-20 season, 33 apprentices have been selected for the award, which celebrates the holistic development of young players and is a barometer applied to the LFE Apprentice of the Year awards.

The 11 – June 2020:

Connor Shanks (Bradford City)
Carl Johnston (Fleetwood Town)
Alex Henderson (Ipswich Town)
Stuart McKinstry (Leeds United)

Ciaran Donnelly, Academy Manager, said: “Carl has been an exemplary scholar throughout his two years with the club. His attitude to training and desire to improve is admirable and a shining example for others to follow. He has an insatiable competitive spirit and has accessed this consistently throughout his scholarship.

"Carl is a natural leader and demands the same standards he sets to others. Every aspect of his game that he can make a difference too he goes at it 100% and this has placed him in a good position to potentially have a career in the game. We are looking forward to seeing how he progresses over the next 12 months as a young professional.”
