Success for young Academy team

Linfield FC 2012s participated in the Linfield Ladies 2011 tournament over the past 4 weeks which was a very enjoyable experience for the boys. Playing three group games, the wee Blues had outstanding results versus Carryduff Colts and Ards Academy in the first two games. The final group game paired them with a strong Portavogie team with the boys losing 2-1 and meaning that they finished second in their group and would have to play a strong Glentoran 2011 side in the semi-final.

On a wet Saturday morning last week the boys played a great game at Aquinas HS, they were outstanding throughout and made the final with an impressive performance.

Onto the Final on Friday night at Olympia where the team faced a very strong Linfield Ladies team. Two outstanding goals from Ronan Laverty brought the game to a tense penalty shoot-out. Both teams missed during the shoot-out with the deciding penalty being converted by team captain Toby Bradshaw which brought mass celebrations from the boys and spectators.

We would like to thank Linfield Ladies for a well organised and enjoyable tournament.

Only 2 weeks ago the boys came runners up in their first Belfast Cup competition, and although it was disappointing, they have bounced back with great energy, commitment and togetherness. This is a special group and we will be excited to monitor their progress over the coming years. Linfield FC would also like to thank all of the parents and other family members who follow the boys every week, your support is gratefully appreciated.

Finally well done to all, congratulations go to,

Henry Thompson, Zach Jackson, Toby Bradshaw, Jacob McMullan, Riley King, Ronan Laverty, Corey Armstrong, Daniel Jamison, Connor Daye, Luke Duddy, Caleb Gibson, Jacob Binks & Anton Doras.

Also congratulations to coaches Scott Boyd, Willy Lee and Gary McMullan.
