Linfield F.C. Remembrance events at Windsor Park

Posted : 2nd November 2018 at 06:56:30

As we enter the annual period of Remembrance, Linfield Football Club has made arrangements to remember, honour and pay tribute to those club personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice during two World Wars and other conflicts.

Our tributes will commence with a short Service of Remembrance at the club’s War Memorial situated in the Railway Stand offices. This will take place on Saturday 3rd November at 12.30 pm, ahead of the home game against Warrenpoint Town.

The service will remember the 19 former Linfield players who died whilst serving their country during the 1st and 2nd World Wars. It will also pay tribute to the other Linfield personnel who served with distinction (and in many cases suffered injury) during these and other conflicts and returned home afterwards.

All supporters are welcome to attend this Service of Remembrance and any supporters clubs are welcome to lay their own tribute wreaths during the service.

On Saturday 10th November the club will mark Remembrance weekend in traditional manner with the 2 teams being led onto the pitch by a Royal British Legion piper and David Healy will lay a poppy wreath in the centre circle, ahead of the minutes silence in honour of the Fallen.

The players will pay tribute by wearing the traditional Linfield poppy shirts and details have been published about how supporters can sponsor these shirts in aid of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.

Audaces Fortuna Juvat.
