Warning about the use of flares at Windsor Park

The Management Committee were saddened to learn that one of the club's youngest supporters was injured before the recent Irish Cup Final, due to the dangerous and totally unacceptable use of flares by a very small number of spectators in the Kop Stand.

Thankfully the young girl has recovered from her injuries which caused her to miss the first half of the Irish Cup Final while she was being treated by the St John's Ambulance.

With a UEFA Champions League tie against Slovenian side Gorica due to be staged at Windsor Park on July 11, supporters are reminded that UEFA do not permit the use of flares at games played under their jurisdiction.

The penalties for sides whose supporters flaunt UEFA rules and regulations can be very severe and so Linfield supporters are urged not to bring items which could cause injury to this or to any other game.

Linfield supporters will have also noted that UEFA have announced their intention to penalise clubs whose supporters sing offensive or inappropriate songs at Champions League fixtures.

To try and avoid possible punitive sanctions being inflicted upon this club, the Management Committee and playing staff would strongly urge Linfield supporters to get behind the team in the season ahead in a way which causes offence to no-one.
