Mark Haughey spoke to Linfieldfc.com after netting the hugely important winning goal in last night's dramatic game at Windsor Park.
"That was a great night for the club. Obviously, it wasn't a great night, weather wise but results wise, it was a very important night for the club. We're over the moon to have picked up the 3 points and to have gone to the top of the league as well.
My goal tonight was not the prettiest but you can't really complain about any goal, especially when it turns out, like tonight's, to be the winning goal in such a tight game. The ball just popped up for me after a bit of a scramble in the box and thankfully for us, I made a good connection and it ended up in the back of the net and thereafter, we managed to see the game out. It may not have been a wonder goal but it was certainly a special goal for the club in what was such a difficult game.
It's good that my 2 goals for the club have been such important match winning goals for us. We didn't have to wait quite as long tonight, as we did for the other goal when I scored in injury time that day down in Warrenpoint but the great thing about tonight's win is that it puts us back on top of the league and that was our aim before tonight's big game.
There's a bit of a break in the league action now for almost 2 weeks, so it's nice that we are top going into the next round of games the weekend after next.
It's been a huge weekend for us, with the wins against Glentoran and now Glenavon. We've worked hard and we've shown how mentally and physically strong we are to cope with heavy pitches, as well as the wind and the rain in these 2 tough games in the space of a couple of days or so. We can have a bit of a rest now after all the hard work we put in, in tonight's game.
Glenavon were excellent tonight. They've a very good side and Gary has a great mixture of experience and youth in his squad. We expected them to be as good as they proved to be but we're just delighted to have picked up the all important 3 points.
We'll enjoy tonight's result and get back to training on Thursday and Saturday. We'll rest, ahead of gathering ourselves again for next weeks big Shield Final up in Ballymena."
