Kirk Millar programme article

Posted : 27th October 2017

Linfield winger Kirk Millar will be rewarded for his good form when he receives the Linfield Supporters' Trust player of the month award for September, prior to this afternoon’s clash with Ards in the Danske Bank Premiership.

The 25 year-old scored two and assisted two goals as the Blues came out winners in five of their seven fixtures in September. Speaking to ‘Look at Linfield’ earlier this week, Millar spoke of his delight at picking up the award.

“It's a great privilege for me to be named the supporters trust's player of the month and I look forward to receiving the award today. It always means a lot to me to receive such support from the fans and it’s pleasing to know that they’ve been happy with my performances. A massive thank you to all who voted for me. It's a great feeling.”

But despite picking up the personal award, the former Oldham man is still striving for improvement in his fourth season of his second spell at Windsor Park.

“I have been doing okay lately. I'm always critical of myself and always want to do better and there's always something you can improve on, so I am working hard on and off the pitch to be the best player I can be.”

The Blues are aiming to retain their title this season but have slipped down the table slightly due to a couple of defeats but Kirk says there’s no need to panic, as it’s still early days and he believes the strength of the squad at Windsor Park can lead to another good season.

“It's still early days in the season and league titles are not won in October. We had got off to a good start before losing a couple but there's a lot more to come from this team, with the quality and ability we have to offer throughout the squad.”

“I think every season you set out to win everything you can and the fact that we were in a similar position this time last year is still firmly in our mind-sets. We just have to stick together and work harder than we did last year to achieve that.”

Millar will be aiming to help Linfield overcome an Ards team high on confidence, after they picked up recent morale-boosting victories over Glenavon and Warrenpoint Town respectively and he believes it’s important that when Linfield receive inevitable setbacks along the road of their title quest that they don’t dwell on them.

“We can never get down about our past defeats. You just have to move past them and dig out results, so our only focus is on winning the next game, which in this case is obviously Ards and it will be tough. I feel we have been very unlucky in a few games this season so far but there's a lot more games to come for us to prove the doubters wrong.”

Linfield supporters will no doubt congratulate Kirk on picking up his Supporters Trust award and will hope he can continue to produce his positive performances, starting today against a battling Ards team that are sure to be tough opponents, as they come to Windsor Park under the management of Colin Nixon.
