Stephen Fallon programme article

Posted : 8th December 2018

SINCE coming into the team three weeks ago, midfielder Stephen Fallon has made quite an impression – so much so that he was voted as runner up in the Linfield Supporters Trust ‘player of the month’ poll for the month of November – despite starting just two games in the month!

‘Look at Linfield’ caught up with the 21-year-old this week and he said he was happy to get a run of games under his belt.

“I've been pleased with my performances since I’ve came into the team and I am happy to get a run of games, but it is important to try to keep improving. I am enjoying my time at Linfield although it has perhaps taken me a while to adjust to the league and the demands of it. Hopefully I can keep progressing and improve as a player.”

Fallon joined The Blues from Swansea City just shy of three years ago and after having short spells in the team throughout that time, he felt he needed to do better in past times to appear on a more consistent basis. He also enjoyed a change of role last weekend when he played further up the pitch, rather than his previous central midfield role.

“I like playing further forward and that is where I played most of the time when I was younger, as well as for the Swifts. I feel I need to do better to keep my place in the team when I am given the oppertunity and hopefully I can do that, but I know that there is a lot of competition for places in the squad.”

“Last Saturday at Ballymena was a very tough game and we were disappointed with the result, but I think we deserved a draw from the game. We didn't stop trying to get a goal at the end which was a positive, even though an equaliser didn’t come.”

The former Northern Ireland youth international is taking a positive mindset into a big week for the Club, starting with today’s heavyweight clash against Crusaders, before heading to Stangmore Park on Tuesday evening for the semi-final of the Bet McLean League Cup.

“Saturday will be a very tough game like it always is against Crusaders and we will need to be at our best to win the game. It’s a very important game and we need to bounce back from last week’s defeat with a positive result.”

“It's always our goal to progress in every competition, but we know Dungannon Swifts will give us a tough game, especially with them being holders. They won’t want to give the Cup up without a fight. We will need a big performance to progress on Tuesday when it comes around and hopefully get ourselves into the final.”

We wish Stephen and his teammates all the best for today’s game and indeed, for the rest of what promises to be an exciting season. The Linfield faithful will hope to see the promising youngster keep up his impressive performances in the blue shirt.
