Alex Moore programme article

Posted : 6th July 2019

After spending last season on loan at Dungannon Swifts under the management of former Linfield defender Kris Lindsay, Blues’ goalkeeper Alex Moore feels his spell at Stangmore Park has aided his development as a promising upcoming goalkeeper who's progressed through the ranks at Linfield.

“Going out on loan was brilliant for me. It allowed me to gain vital experience of playing regularly in the Premiership and I think that has aided my development massively. Playing a full season in the Premiership was a brilliant experience for me and obviously, playing more regularly is something that I would like to target in the future.”

“Working with a legend like Roy Carroll for the years that he was at Linfield was brilliant for me too. Learning from him along with my coach Johnny Williamson was brilliant for my development. I’m sure Roy will go on to do brilliant things in the future. I will keep working hard with Johnny to keep improving as a player.”

The 20 year-old was part of the squad on their recent pre-season trip to Marbella, Spain and he feels that the training camp will prove beneficial, in terms of fitness and squad camaraderie heading into the new season.

“The trip was brilliant. We trained twice a day and then played a game against Dinamo Bucharest on the Wednesday. This along with the heat in which we were training and playing in, will benefit the whole squad in terms of fitness and team bonding. All that I could ask for is an opportunity to play in pre season and to try and impress the manager and thankfully, in the two games so far, the manager has given me the chance to play half a game in each.”

Given today’s friendly is the last one before Linfield’s competitive matches start when Rosenborg visit us in the Champions League on Wednesday, Alex believes it’s important that the team puts in a good performance this afternoon to take into the tough European tie in midweek.

“The squad’s fitness levels are continuing to progress towards the ideal levels for the start of the season and obviously, fitness is something we will need to rely on against a team like Rosenborg. It will certainly be a very difficult tie against a team of their pedigree but if we work hard to do what we are good at and try to make it as difficult as we can for them to play, then we might have a chance. I think before the Rosenborg game, it is vital that we put in a top performance against St. Johnstone today, to give us momentum going into what will no doubt be a very difficult game.”

Best wishes to Alex and the rest of the squad, as they embark on the club’s latest European adventure.
