David Healy - ‘delighted to announce news of a contract extension for Chris Johns’

Posted : 7th January 2022

David Healy announces news of a contract extension for Chris Johns.

“I’m delighted to be able to advise our supporters that Chris Johns has today signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club for a further 2 years, after the expiry of his existing contract at the end of this season.

The contract extension is richly deserved and I know our supporters will warmly welcome this news of Chris extending his stay at the club.

Last season Chris was named in the NIFWA Team of the Year and in my view he has progressed and improved even further since then. To my mind, he’s the best goalkeeper in the league and it’s great that he has shown his commitment to the club by agreeing this extended contract.

Chris becomes the third player, following Conor Pepper and Kyle McClean, to sign extended contracts in recent weeks and it’s great to get this business done, ahead of a busy run in to the end of the season.

We are continuing to work hard to try and secure further contract extensions (and indeed new additions to the squad) and I’m very optimistic that I will hopefully be able to announce further positive news in the near future.

I want to acknowledge the assistance and cooperation of Neil Saxton, Catalyst4 professional sports management, in reaching this highly satisfactory outcome in this thoroughly professional contract negotiation.

We look forward to continuing to work with Chris over the duration of his extended contract and we know that he will continue to work hard in training and on match days, to maintain his very high playing standards. “

Chris Johns spoke of his delight in agreeing the contract extension.

“I’m delighted to have signed this new contract today. It’s great that the manager and the club have such faith in me and of course, I have every faith in the manager’s plans for taking the club forward.

I’m very happy and settled here and it’s great to get this contract issue resolved now, to leave me able to be fully focused on helping the club achieve further success, not just this season but over the duration of the rest of my new contract.

I want to thank the supporters for all the backing and encouragement they’ve given me in my time here and I hope that we can bring them the success they expect and deserve.”
