Jamie Mulgrew - appreciative of Torrans Trophy honour

Posted : 17th May 2022

After receiving the Torrans Trophy honour at Saturday’s Gala awards event at the Crowne plaza hotel, Jamie Mulgrew spoke to Jamie Megarry of his pride at receiving the award.

“It feels really, really special to receive this honour tonight as it's the pinnacle of awards as far as I’m concerned. To win this special award, given the magnitude and significance of the trophy and the hugely impressive list of names already on it, is something that I'm very, very proud of.

I want to thank the directors for nominating me for this award - it’s humbling to be placed in amongst the names of some of the truly great names to have been awarded this honour in the past.

I'm obviously still playing on for another season and I'm still hungry to achieve more. The team and myself as captain are very hungry to continue to be successful. It’s what we thrive on and what drives us on.

You're a long time retired, and it was great to meet up with a lot of the legends who were in attendance at the Gala Dinner and Awards evening. You look forward to seeing them at the events because of the stories they have and the insight you get from them. Certainly, you have to give it everything you've got while you're able to play and as we have seen with the legends in attendance on Saturday night, you'll always be remembered for your contribution to the club’s success.

Saturday night was a special occasion for my family and I so I want to thank everyone for all the very kind and congratulatory messages I have received since the news was announced.

After a short break we will all be looking forward to returning to pre season and the challenges of the upcoming European campaign.”
