Martin McGaughey awarded Life Membership of Linfield FC

Martin McGaughey was last night awarded the honour of Life Membership of Linfield Football Club (along with Torrans Trophy winner Sammy Pavis) at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Belfast.

Martin was the second winner of the prestigious Torrans Trophy and highlights of an outstanding Linfield career (1978-93) included.

313 goals in 482 appearances.

Testimonial season in 1990 and one senior N. Ireland cap v Israel in 1984

15 appearances in Europe and 5 inter league Caps 1984-89

1984/85 was a particularly memorable season with 50 appearances and 56 goals.

In that European Silver boot award winning season Martin also picked up the following awards.

Ulster footballer of the year

NIFWA player of the year

PFA player of the year

1st Newtownabbey LSC player of the year

6 Irish League winners medals between 1981 and 1989

1 Irish Cup winners medal v Coleraine in 1982

A well deserved honour in the form of Life Membership of the club he served with great distinction was presented to Martin at the club’s annual awards event last night.
