Linfield FC records with profound sadness the passing today of Manchester City and England legend, Francis Lee.
Francis played in City’s 1-0 European Cup Winners Cup first round, first leg win against Linfield at Maine Rd on September 16, 1970. England team mate Colin Bell, who passed away in January 2021, scored the late winning goal.
Linfield’s Billy Millen, who scored both goals in our stunning 2-1 second leg win, sadly passed away in October 2020, shortly after the 50th anniversary of the memorable European ties between our two clubs.
Francis Lee scored the decisive goal at Windsor Park which ensured that the reigning European Cup Winners’ Cup holders went through to the next round on the away goals’ rule.
The deepest sympathy of everyone at Linfield FC is conveyed at this sad time to the Lee family circle and to all our friends at his beloved Manchester City FC.
