Friday night’s Premiership game between Mid Ulster and Linfield at the Mid Ulster sports arena in Cookstown was abandoned after 5 minutes, due to a serious injury sustained by the home team’s ‘keeper Lilie Crooks.
The best wishes of everyone at Linfield FC are extended to Lilie for a full and speedy recovery and our thoughts are with her team mates and coaches who were naturally upset because of the serious injury sustained by their goalkeeper.
Linfield had taken a lead in the first minute through Ebony Leckey and added a second goal after 5 minutes through Rachel McConnell.
Lilie sustained the injury in her attempt to prevent the second goal but lay motionless afterwards in the goalmouth for a lengthy period.
After treatment and care from both clubs’ physios, an ambulance arrived and Lilie left the pitch on a stretcher, to be transported by ambulance to hospital.
During the lengthy period of on field treatment, the decision was taken by both clubs, the referee and NIFL to abandon the game and the thoughts and prayers of everyone at this club are with Lilie Crooks, her family and team mates at Mid Ulster, as the international squad goalkeeper hopefully recovers fully from the serious injury sustained in Friday night’s game.
