Saturday afternoon saw our first ever Over 50s walking football match at New Midgley Park, when we welcomed the Northern Ireland Walking Football Federation and their opponents from the Republic of Ireland to New Midgley Park.
In what was a keenly contested match the Republic of Ireland took the bragging rights back down the M1, with a single goal victory after a sensational flick and volley into the top corner of the home goal.
The Northern Ireland Walking Football Federation is a recently formed organisation who are keen to grow this version of the 'beautiful' game. On the evidence of the talent, competitiveness and the post-match 'debrief' it really is an excellent way for players to stay in the game.
Northern Ireland will continue to build towards UEFA’s Walking Football Championship over the next few months which includes matches with England and the Isle of Man amongst others.
