Last gasp heartache for Linfield at New Midgley Park
Posted : 1st September 2021 at 23:09:35
Tonight’s Danske Bank NIFL Premiership game between Linfield and Sion Swifts at New Midgley Park was an exciting end to end thriller, with the visitors scoring a late winner to seal a 4-3 victory.
Rebecca Bassett gave Linfield a 1-0 lead (37 mins), only for the visitors to equalise with the last touch of the first half, following a right wing corner.
Kate Dickson restored Linfield’s lead early in the second half driving a fine strike into the roof of the net from the edge of the box (47 mins)
Dickson made it 3-1 soon after, hooking in from close range following a right wing cross (56 mins).
However, the visitors struck back with 2 similar goals in quick succession (61 and 65 mins) and as the game ebbed and flowed with both teams going in search of a winner, it was the visitors who grabbed the points with their 86th minute winner.
It was a result the Blues didn’t deserve, following a spirited display throughout.
Linfield have 3 remaining New Midgley park games this season - home to Glentoran on September 10, followed up with home league games against Derry City and Crusaders.
