Blues keeper celebrates 21st birthday in goal in New Midgley Park win
Posted : 6th October 2021 at 23:08:24
Linfield goalkeeper Lauren Currie celebrated her 21st birthday in goal for Linfield in tonight’s 2-1 Danske Bank Premiership win against Crusaders at New Midgley Park.
Linfield took an 8th minute lead through striker Rebecca Bassett. Under 17 international Keri Halliday provided the assist to tee up Bassett to drive home a low shot to put Linfield in front.
On 14 minutes Linfield’s Victoria Carleton was upended in the box and she got up to drive the resultant penalty award high into the roof of the net to Double Linfield’s lead.
Linfield had further chances to increase the advantage but at half time it remained 2-0 to Linfield.
Crusaders upped the ante after the break and pulled a goal back after 53 minutes - Danielle McDowell’s low shot was well parried by Lauren Currie but the ball looped up into the air and dropped into the back of the net.
There were further opportunities for both sides in an even end to end second half but Linfield held on to claim the win in the final game of the season.
Final score - Linfield 2 Crusaders 1
