Recently Linfieldfc.com reported on a friendly game played between Linfield and Rangers days before 1500 people tragically lost their lives in the Titanic disaster just over 100 years ago.
We have since been notified by a Linfield supporter Greg Henderson that a fundraising friendly game was staged by Linfield to raise money for the families of the victims. Frankie Taylor has provided precise details of the game in which several players guested for the Linfield side.
The gane was against Blackburn Rovers on May 11 1912 and the game ended in a 2-1 victory for the Lancastrians. Linfield's goal was a penalty scored by McEwan.
The Linfield team was Scott, Willis, Craig, (Morton FC), Rollo, Harris (Everton FC), Stewart, Houston, Lacey (Liverpool FC) McKnight (Preston NE), Macauley (Huddersfield Town) and McEwan.
In between the Rangers and Blackburn games Linfield also hosted another friendly game against Lancashire opposition.
On April 27 1912 a LINFIELD select played Preston North End. The result was 2-2 with the Linfield goals scored by Watson and McEwan.
